“The state Congress is on the verge of a break-up. Its numbers will decline soon,” Rane claimed at a press conference on Friday.
The health minister, who is busy campaigning for the Valpoi bypoll, did not mince words while criticizing his former party and its leaders.
“The Congress is absolutely non-existent in Valpoi. My votes were merged into the BJP when I joined the party in March. There are no Congress workers in Valpoi,” he said.
Taking potshots at Congress functionaries, who are in Valpoi to drum up support for party candidate Roy Naik, Rane said the Congress has been importing people from other places as “it is facing a paucity of workers in Valpoi”.
Rebutting accusations by Ponda MLA Ravi Naik that no development has been carried out in Usgao, Rane questioned the former’s contribution towards the village when it formed a part of the Ponda constituency a decade ago. He added that three projects have been accorded in-principle approval for Usgao, and said that he was aware of the infrastructural problems.
